Summary

I am joint head of the Aerodynamics and Fluid Dynamics Research Group. My research concerns the development of numerical methods for the prediction of unsteady fluid flows. My main areas of interest are flows about wings and aircraft, rotors, incompressible flows including free surface flows and non-aerospace applications, reduced order modelling, continuation and aerodynamic-structural coupling.

Current Areas of Research include:

-Computational Aeroelastics
-Reduced Order Modelling
-Continuation and bifurcation analysis
-Gust simulation and modelling

Biography

Dr. Gaitonde obtained a BSc in Pure and Applied Mathematics from the University of Exeter in 1988. She then joined the Department to undertake a PhD on the mathematical modelling of separated flows past smooth slender bodies. She was awarded her PhD in 1991. Subsequently she worked in the Department as a post-doctoral researcher developing computational methods to calculate unsteady fluid flows. She was appointed as a Lecturer in Aerodynamics in 2003, senior lecturer in 2007 and reader in 2017.
