MSc in Economics and Finance

The Economics and Finance programme is especially designed for candidates holding a good Economics degree and who wish to expand their career options by building expertise in Finance whilst deepening their understanding of economic theory and econometrics.

The programme has a broad focus and can open up diverse career paths. Typically graduates will find employment in the financial sector but the programme is also an excellent preparation for careers in economic consultancy or even work within the public sector or international development institutions.

Second Term

Students will choose three finance options and one economics option.

Option availability subject to staffing and timetabling constraints.

Third Term

The MSc is completed with a dissertation of up to 15,000 words. The dissertation topic is decided upon after discussion with a supervisor.

Admission requirements

Applicants are normally  expected to hold a good degree ( usually equivalent to a 2.1) in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Mathematics or another quantitative subject , for example, Engineering, Physics, Computing and any other relevant science .  Good degrees in other disciplines that include modules in relevant subjects or other evidence of mathematical ability may also be considered.

 

English language proficiency shown by one of the following:

IELTS = 6.5 in each element (writing, reading, listening and speaking)

OR

TOEFL with 5 in TWE = Paper based 600 (computer based 250, Internet based 100)

OR

Successful completion of the University of Bristol pre-sessional language course (65% overall in the final assessment with no less than 65% in each component).

Language tests are not required from overseas students who have already completed a three year undergraduate degree in the UK.
