Personal profile

I am currently an ESRC Postdoctoral Research Fellow based in the School of Management. Before coming to Bristol, I was a Lecturer in Sociology at Lancaster University, where I also completed my ESRC-funded MA in Sociological Research and PhD in Sociology.

I am an interdisciplinary scholar of food, broadly drawing from traditions within human (primarily economic) geography, organisation studies, political economy and the sociology of consumption.

My research builds on three interrelated strands:

  • Alternative economic spaces in the food system in times of crisis and austerity
  • Comparative Alternative Food Network (AFN) studies, with a particularly interest in Chinese AFNs
  • Recent dietary change, with particular reference to alternative proteins and markets for 'meat alternatives'

I have extensive experience from of both teaching and supervision at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. This includes teaching topics and courses ranging from classical and contemporary social theory, to the sociology of the environment, climate change, consumer culture and advertising, and beyond.

I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Fields of interest
