More about this group

The management accounting group has a long tradition of research and engagement with practice. Group members' research covers a broad range of management accounting practices (e.g. costing, management control, performance evaluation, pricing), with specific studies in manufacturing, service and the public sector (particularly the National Health Service), and in alternative organisational settings including charities, NGOs, and cooperatives. The group also has an interest in management accounting in universities, and in relation to marginalised social groups. Group members are active in the interdisciplinary Inclusive Economy Centre.

Group members have published in leading accounting journals such as Accounting and Business Research, Accounting, Organizations and SocietyAccounting, Auditing and Accountability JournalBritish Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, European Accounting Review, Financial Accountability and Management, Management Accounting Research. The group also publishes beyond Accounting, such as in Organization Studies and Critical Perspectives on Anthropology, and beyond academic journals in books (e.g. Handbook of Management Accounting Research) as well as reports for professional associations and alternative organisations.

Group members maintain close links to accountancy professional bodies (e.g. CIMA and HFMA) and academic associations (e.g. EIASM), and alternative accountancy networks in the UK and the USThey serve as editors or editorial board members of journals such as Accounting, Organizations and Society, and Management Accounting Research.
