Trust in economists heavily influenced by the EU referendum

Research from the Economics Network shows that "Leave voters increasingly distrust economists to provide honest answers".

The Financial Times has used research from the Economics Network to show that Leave voters are disproportionately more sceptical about professional economic opinion than Remain voters.

Professor Alvin Birdi, Director of the Economics Network, said that there was an absence of recognised spokespeople for the economics profession.

The University of Bristol has been fortunate to host the Economics Network, who have been working for the past 20 years to enhance the quality of university economics education in the UK. Academics in the Department of Economics at Bristol have also been awarded for their teaching excellence, which is developing the next generation of economists to tackle these issues.
