Professor Palie Smart appointed Head of the School of Management

The University of Bristol has appointed Professor Palie Smart as Head of the School of Management, ahead of its formal launch in 2020.

Palie, who took up the role on 1st August, previously held the position of Director of Research within the Department of Management and has 20 years’ experience in management education, including various roles at the Global Top FT Ranked Cranfield School of Management.
Palie has built a substantial research profile which includes publication in numerous international journals such as Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS) and Global Top 50 Financial Times (FT) Journals.
The Department of Management is currently part of the School of Economics, Finance and Management but will be formally launched as its own school in 2020. This follows a period of unprecedented growth, with the department having tripled in size since 2017.
Palie said: “What an honour and privilege to be leading the new school at this historic time in its evolution. As an academic I am interested in the role of universities in new models of innovation that bring together stakeholders in business, government and third sector.
“Earlier this year we became the first amongst UK business and management schools to declare a climate emergency and we continue to strive to be the first amongst competitors in service to global civic goals.
