Dr Steven Proud awarded for Outstanding Contributions to Economics Education
24 September 2019
The Economics Network presented the prestigious award to Dr Steven Proud at the Developments in Economics Education Conference earlier this month.
Steve is the Director of Undergraduate Studies for Economics as well as a Reader in Economics (Education). Since arriving at Bristol, Steve's work in education has contributed significantly to the teaching excellence that we are proud to offer in the department. This award recognises Steve's impact on the Economics teaching community and on students' learning and interest in Economics.
The judging panel was made up of a group of eminent economists, independent of the Economics Network, who nominated Steve "for excellence across a variety of activities, all focused on improving the experience of students". The award also recognises teaching success within the wider department and highlights the innovative teaching units we offer at Bristol.
The judges' statement read:
"Not only do the materials and delivery in his own teaching get very high ratings, but Steve also has an admirable record of publishing pedagogical research and using research to improve the student experience. He has led on classroom-flipping at Bristol, putting lecture content into videos on his YouTube channel, and he led the creation of a video studio within the department. He was also a major contributor in a task force that improved assessment and communication in response to student feedback."
In addition to the insightful research Steve publishes, he has also recently become an editor of the Economics Network journal The International Review of Economics Education and a Senior Associate of the Economics Network.
