CMPO Funding Confirmed for Five Years

Following a mid-term review in February this year, ESRC funding for the Centre for Market and Public Organisation (CMPO) has been confirmed at £4.75m over the next five years. The main focus of research at the CMPO is the organization and delivery of public services and it has become increasing interdisciplinary since its inception in 1998, combining expertise in economics, geography and law. The proposed five-year research programme offers continuity with the first five years but also innovation in the role of third sector organisations. The new programme is organised into three broad themes:

  • Markets, the state and public services
  • Third sector delivery of public services
  • Neighbourhoods and public services

The new grant covers thirty-three projects over the five years and pays for fifteen years of research assistants. The grant also allows for four academic conferences in Bristol each year, two policy conferences in London each year and forty five international visitors.

Our central research question remains: how do the organisations which deliver public services interact with their environment?
