Welcome from Dr Francesco Giovannoni
Dr Francesco Giovannoni
I would like to introduce myself, my name is Francesco Giovannoni and I am the Programme Director for the MRes in Economics. I am delighted that you have been made an offer of postgraduate study at the University of Bristol this year!
I have overall responsibility for your programme’s content and delivery – whilst you are a student here, I will be able to help and advise you on the academic side of your studies.
I have a PhD from the Graduate Business School at Stanford University and my research interests are in Economic Theory and Political Economy.
You will also be able to find out more about our MRes in Economics programme by visiting the link provided.
Your first day will be on Monday 18 September 2017 and you should make sure you have arrived in Bristol before this compulsory start date as registration takes place on the same day. At registration you will receive your first week’s timetable – make sure you are available as you can expect a variety of activities to take place.
As part of our degree, we ask our students to take part in a pre-sessional Mathematics and Statistics short course. This will be an intensive course and will take place over a couple of weeks. It covers most of the mathematical tools needed for your degree. The course is not formally part of your degree and will not count towards your final mark, but attendance is compulsory. We will contact you in due course with additional information.
I am really looking forward to welcoming you but if you have any questions or queries in the meantime, the Graduate Studies Admissions Team will be more than happy to help you.
In particular, if, for any reason, you anticipate having difficulty reaching any of the conditions of your offer, then please get in touch as soon as possible – we realise this can be a stressful time and the Admissions Team are there to support and advise you as much as possible.
