Merchant Venturers BuildingThe Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is an active and successful centre of excellence in teaching and research, with in-depth specialisation in Electrical Energy Management and Advanced Communications Technologies (Power- and Spectrum-Efficient Wireless Access, Image & Video Signal Processing, Photonics and Quantum Information). Much of the department's research is interdisciplinary, working with colleagues in the Engineering Faculty and in Applied Sciences.
Through our 29 members of academic staff alongside dedicated support and technical staff we deliver nine fully accredited and industrially relevant undergraduate programmes and two state-of-the-art taught Masters (MSc) to 290 students within our highly sought-after field.
The Department places strong emphasis on collaborative research and attracts approximately 50% of its research income from industry (UK and Overseas), with an income in excess of £2.8M per year. Our unique combination of theoretical and practical activities through our well-founded laboratories gives a truly distinctive value to a sponsored research activity at Bristol.
