Dr Robert Piechocki is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol. He received an MSc degree from the Technical University of Wroclaw Poland in 1997, and a PhD from the University of Bristol in 2002.
His research interests span the areas of signal processing, information and communication theory, with the emphasis on wireless communications. He is also engaged in the development advanced distributed algorithms for Analogue VLSI.
He has authored and co-authored over 60 international journal and conference papers and holds 12 patents.
Dr Piechocki's research has a direct impact on the development of current and future wireless systems. He has contributed to the development of Blast-OFDM (a.k.a. MIMO-OFDM) radio interface. This technique is one of the most efficient radio interfaces and is a core technology for many future standards e.g it has been selected for the next generation WiFi system (IEEE 802.11n). In collaboration with Toshiba and IHP, he has led the development of novel power efficient analogue VLSI transceivers. He has participated in a number of industrial (e.g. Toshiba, IHP, QinetiQ, Fujitsu), UK and EU funded projects.
