Bristol Medical School is the largest and one of the most diverse schools in the University of Bristol. The school is a leading centre for collaborative and multi-disciplinary research in population and translational health sciences.

The Department of Population Health Sciences is a leading centre of excellence in population sciences, including epidemiology, biostatistics, and health services research. Staff in the department participate in extensive national and international research collaborations and provide health policy advice for government organisations and international bodies. Staff and students in the department are also members of the cross-faculty Bristol Population Health Science Institute.

The Department of Translational Health Sciences undertakes laboratory-based, translational, and applied research, using a wide range of techniques, from molecular biology to clinical trials with academic and industrial partners. Staff and students are based in research and clinical settings across the city, including the Bristol Royal Infirmary, Southmead Hospital, and the Dorothy Hodgkin Building.
