Create News or Events
News and events are structured pages which are intended to provide a current view of what is happening in the department. The most recent news and events are displayed in boxes on the home page with all previous entries accessible from the menu bar links. Note that both will disappear automatically from the home page after the display until date and time is passed.

Events
To add a news item
- If you want to display an image with the new then firstly add the image before carrying on.
- You will need to be a site member of the /civilengineering site, see the site access page.
- Go to the news folder in your browser at /civilengineering/news/.
- Append secure/add to the end ie. /civilengineering/news/secure/add.
- A form will be presented, fill in the required fields and press add to save the news item.
To control the order of display of news items on the home page change the display from date and time field.
To edit a news item
- Display the news item you want to edit and then in the address bar append /secure/edit at the end ie. /civilengineering/news/2006/billsmithistructeprize/secure/edit
- Edit and save the changes.
To add an events item
- You will need to be a site member of the /civilengineering site, see the site access page.
- Go to the news folder in your browser at /civilengineering/events/.
- Append secure/add to the end ie. /civilengineering/events/secure/add.
- A form will be presented, fill in the required fields and press add to save the event item.
To edit a event item
- Display the news item you want to edit and then in the address bar append /secure/edit at the end ie. /civilengineering/event/2006/seminar04052006/secure/edit
- Edit and save the changes.
To add an image to the news item
This is a two step process:
- Create an image in the correct year folder for the news item, using either the /control or /manage method. For example enter /civilengineering/news/2006/control. Please note that you will need to be given special permissions to do this.

Whilst adding or editing the news item (see above) fill in the following two fields:
- Image file name - the id of the image file (e.g. award.jpg), also please only use lowercase for the ID.
- Image caption - the caption displayed under the image (can be blank)
