The SSRC Approach

The SSRC aims to promote an integrated multidisciplinary approach to safety critical systems. This approach involves:

• Strong industrial focus through a joint academic and industrial steering group;

• Generic and applied research projects responding directly to the needs of its industrial partners;

• Consistent approach to safety “from road bridge design to smart sensors”;

• Supported by industry and EPSRC, SSRC is part of both a National Engineering Doctorate Centre in Systems Engineering as well as a Nuclear Engineering Doctorate Scheme; 

• Cross-department expertise using systems engineering as the key theme for collaborative research and teaching across Bristol's Engineering Faculty;

• Industry PhD studentships researching topics of clear value to industrial partners;

• Continuity through an existing collaborative industrial safety research program funded successfully over an eight year period, focused on Programmable Electronic Systems.
