This unit will give solid grounding in the causes of hearing loss in children. It will introduce basic knowledge of various models of deafness, which affect how deaf children are treated and their identity. It will provide a good understanding on how early childhood hearing impairment can influence developmental stages and how early childhood deafness affects long term health consequences of social integration. You will be able to formulate appropriate assessment and treatment plans according to the clinical information acquired and provide awareness of newly emerging techniques in paediatric audiology.
You will be able to acquire and collate relevant information, interpret and make an informed decision concerning the assessment, diagnosis and management of individual cases, liaising with the relevant professionals to co-ordinate assessments and care.

The entrance requirements are either a professional qualification in audiology with evidence of relevant experience and continuing professional development, or a relevant first degree.
