How to donate

Thank you for your interest in making a gift. Your donation will help us to teach the very best of each generation and develop them into the adults that will have an impact on research, people, institutions and countries throughout the world.

The University of Bristol has charitable status which means that gifts made by UK income tax payers can be made tax efficiently via Gift Aid and the University can claim an extra 25% without you having to do anything more.

If you contribute £1,000 or more within an academic year, you'll be named and honoured as a Bristol Pioneer.

Bristol looks increasingly to regular alumni donations to help maintain the outstanding student experience it offers. When the University knows it has a steady stream of income to rely on, it can plan a more successful future for itself and its students.

Gifts by credit card and cheque

The University of Bristol accepts VISA, MasterCard and CAF charity card (please note that CAF charity cards can't be used for online donations).

Make a credit card gift online.

If you would rather donate by post, please make your cheque payable to the University of Bristol. You can download a printable donation form (PDF, 81Kb). Please complete the donation form and return it to:

Gift aid logo

By completing a Gift Aid Tax Declaration you can increase the value of your donation by nearly one third at no additional cost to you.

When you fill in the Gift Aid Tax Declaration, the tax you pay on your gift can be reclaimed by the University on donations of any amount, made by any method provided it is made by a UK tax payer.

This means that for every £100 you give, the University can claim an extra £25 to help support the cause you have specified.

Higher rate tax payers

If you pay income tax at the higher rate, the University can reclaim tax as if it was paid at the basic rate and you reclaim the difference from the Inland Revenue in the form of additional relief by showing the donation on your tax return.

Giving Books for the Library

The University is pleased to accept gifts of items for the Library which fall within the general selection criteria outlined here, i.e. items which support University learning, teaching and research, which develop existing collection strengths or fill identified gaps, or which are materials of regional, national or international significance not elsewhere available in the region.  However, it must be recognised that gifts are not ‘free’, as they require staff time and accommodation. Therefore, the Library is unable to accept gifts of items which fall outside these criteria. The Library is under great pressure of space for housing books and as such books need to either be core reading texts for students or be of exceptional value and importance.

We want to ensure that your gift can be used as you hope and intend, so we do ask that you please contact Ella Searle on 0117 331 7971 or ella.searle@bristol.ac.uk  to discuss your proposed gift in advance.
