The Faculty of Arts at the University of Bristol is home to over 600 full-time and part-time postgraduate students.
Our internationally renowned academic staff actively conduct research in their own individual disciplines and also contribute to interdisciplinary exchanges across subject boundaries to foster a vibrant community of advanced learning.
Our courses are offered full-time taken in one year or part-time with the workload split over two or three years.
Our research programmes commence in either September or January.
The MPhil is a one-year (two-years part-time) tailor-made research programme at Masters level. The qualification is awarded upon successful completion of a 25,000-word dissertation.
The MPhil/PhD research route can be taken after completion of an MA programme. Initially you will be registered on an MPhil programme and subject to a successful upgrade processes you will continue on to complete your doctorate PhD. Doctoral programmes are usually three years in length on a full-time basis or six years part-time. The qualification is awarded upon successful completion of an 80,000-word dissertation.
Faculty of Arts subjects are eligible for funding from the AHRC South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership. We also offers funding opportunities for taught and research programmes.
