This project explores the production and distribution of luxury objects around the ancient Mediterranean and Mesopotamia. It seeks to integrate the skilled craftsmen and traders into the social and economic narratives of luxury object manufacture and dissemination.
It has several strands of activity:
- a study exploring the origins of carved ostrich eggs and whether they were manipulated luxuries;
- an international exhibition entitled An Age of Luxury;
- an AHRC-funded PhD studentship, From Sea to Sea.
