Postgraduate
The Faculty of Arts at the University of Bristol is home to over 600 full-time and part-time postgraduate students.
Our internationally renowned academic staff actively conduct research in their own individual disciplines and also contribute to interdisciplinary exchanges across subject boundaries to foster a vibrant community of advanced learning.
Taught programmes
Our courses are offered full-time taken in one year or part-time with the workload split over two or three years.
Research programmes
Our research programmes commence in either September or January.
MPhil
The MPhil is a one-year (two-years part-time) tailor-made research programme at Masters level. The qualification is awarded upon successful completion of a 25,000-word dissertation.
PhD
The PhD research programme can normally be taken after completion of an MA or MPhil programme. Doctoral programmes are usually three years in length on a full-time basis or six years part-time. The qualification is awarded upon successful completion of an 80,000-word dissertation.
Funding
Faculty of Arts subjects are eligible for funding from the AHRC South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership. We also offer funding opportunities for taught and research programmes.
