Former student
MA in English Literature

After completing my undergrad in English Language and Literature at the University of Leeds, I decided to move to Bristol for further study to expand on my social and academic horizons. The university's fantastic reputation was a major factor influencing my decision, as well as the peaceful city life that I experienced upon visitation.

“I have always had a passion for English, and after doing a bit of research into the department I discovered the wealth of academic genius which I have benefited from greatly so far. Seminars are always vibrant and interesting, with a focus upon topics that have the ability to reshape the way you read a book.

“I am currently studying my Masters part-time, and have not found this to be a hindrance to me and my contact time with tutors and other students. The department is a small one, which generally means that you start to know tutors pretty well and can soon find out which of them you can relate to best.

“The best thing about being a part of the School of Humanities is the abundance of extra research seminars. For those who are greedy for knowledge, and who would like to enrich their course, these seminars prove most helpful. Not only can you enhance your own study area, but you are able to meet incredible people from different departments and universities. I find this incredibly worthwhile as I intend to stay within academia.

“The social life is just as vibrant outside of Humanities! There are always events going on in the Students' Union, and there is a good focus on activities for postgraduates. These present a great opportunity for meeting others and for having a break from work.

“The clubbing scene is great and the city centre does not fall short of standards. If you have a car, you will find many interesting places just outside of Bristol very accessible - the place of excitement to English students is probably Tintern Abbey.

“There is something for everyone!”
