Former student
MA in History
If you were to ask me why I chose Bristol University the answer would not simply be because Bristol is my home town and it is convenient. I could have chosen any other local university but when given the opportunity to study at one of the country’s best I would have to have been crazy to consider anywhere else. This is no exaggeration but it is not just because of the commitment and professionalism of the faculty staff. The students I have encountered possess similar qualities and have a determination and desire to learn that matches my own. The MA options available for study were also a strong determining factor and Bristol University’s pathway courses offered a huge range of choice and flexibility that I found other universities often lacked. There really is something for everyone and the combined erudition generates a pool of knowledge that covers many disciplines of history. This in turn seems to create a strong feeling of community and the Arts Faculty is always a hive of activity with everyone moving with a sense of purpose.
Students and faculty staff work hard and my Postgraduate MA in History requires a level of commitment and learning beyond my undergraduate studies. However, I did not expect it any other way and feel that the MA should reflect the level of high academic status that Bristol tutors and students have come to expect. I know that the completion of my studies will give me a great sense of achievement and worth and it will be something that I and every student, who achieves the same, should be proud of.
My best advice for any student is, don’t be afraid or embarrassed to ask. The task ahead can sometimes seem daunting or overwhelming but you are never alone. All the faculty staff are committed to ensuring you are successful in your studies and you can always find support in your fellow students. So be prepared to immerse yourself and study hard but remember to have fun along the way and enjoy every moment.
