MA in Translation

I never wanted to say, “I wish I would have…” so I packed up my bags in sunny California and hopped on a plane which brought me to Rome. I guess it is true when they say love knows no boundaries. Here I am nearly ten years later, with a growing passion for languages, Italian and English in particular.

“For the past few years I have been dedicating myself to the world of translating and all that it has to offer. However, considering that I live in a very rural area outside of Rome in addition to the fact that I have two small children, I wasn't sure how to take my interest and desire to learn to the next level. That is when I discovered the MA in Translation program at Bristol. Could it really be true that after over ten years since my undergraduate studies in Biological Sciences, there was a way for me to pursue furthering my education? Bristol’s distance option to follow the MA program from Italy was the answer to my prayers. I chose Bristol after extensively researching the topic and seeing that their course content was by far the most interesting and comprehensive. I was immediately impressed as I began the application process with the availability and efficiency of the staff, and that was just the beginning.

“I am currently in the program and have found the Blackboard e-learning atmosphere to be a real virtual school environment, in that I am constantly interacting with all of my fellow students as well as the tutors and staff in general. It is almost as if I am physically there and considering that I can't be, I feel very lucky that a solution such as this exists.

“The courses are rich with assignments that have really made me progress as a translator and have reignited my desire to study again ten years later. The online forum environment has been so enlightening because it is fundamentally based upon discussing and commenting on the topics as a group, which results in the expression of opinions from every angle. In this way you can really benefit from your peers and from the tutors who are always more than available and approach the topics and various assignments in a way that stimulates your creativity.

“I know that there are many people, such as myself, that have the desire to continue their education but feel that due to their location or schedules it isn't possible. That is no longer the case since Bristol makes it possible for you (even if you are a mom!) to study wherever you are and you can organize your own work schedule. I am pursuing a professional career in translation and after this experience I feel that I will have the skills and knowledge to do so.”
