Conference Scheme

Every year the committee will select three conferences to be designated BIRTHA conferences (only conferences taking place at Bristol University will be considered).

Advantages for the conference organisers

The BIRTHA Office will provide full administrative support, including financial management. Conferences are expected to cover themselves, through registration fees and applications made to other organisations, but BIRTHA will guarantee the organisers against any loss up to a maximum of £1500, and offer a loan of up to a maximum of £1000 as a start-up sum.

In return

The conference will be named 'The first/second etc. BIRTHA Conference', and the organisers must give BIRTHA prominent mention in all promotional material and use the BIRTHA logo and the University logo; seek outside finance (e.g. from the British Academy) where appropriate; have a financial plan designed to break even; submit a final report.

Eligibility

Any conference is eligible, but the committee will favour conferences that involve more than one department (or are interdisciplinary in character), and have an international (or at least a strong national) profile.

Application

The following two forms need to be submitted:

You may find it useful to refer to these (draft) guidelines when budgeting for your conference.

Applications will be considered at the next meeting of the committee, which meets three time per academic year. Please send applications via email to Sam Barlow (sam.barlow@bristol.ac.uk) before the following deadline:

Applicants will be notified the following week.
