Studentships attract national rates for tuition fees and a maintenance grant (depending upon the eligibility of the individual student), which are set annually by the AHRC. Current rates can be viewed at http://www.ahrc.ac.uk/FundingOpportunities/Documents/Rates%20-%20Final.pdf

Guidelines for Applicants

Preliminaries

  1. You must first make an application to the University for a place on a postgraduate programme (e.g. MA, Ph.D).
  2. You must be in receipt of an offer for your chosen programme.
  3.  You must have notified the University of your acceptance of your postgraduate place before being nominated for a studentship.
  4. Applicants who have previously received AHRC funding for postgraduate study at the same level are NOT eligible to apply.
  5. Applicants who have completed more than 18 months of their doctoral study are NOT eligible to apply.
  6. Before proceeding with Bristol’s Block Grant application process you must first register with RCUK’s JeS [https://je-s.rcuk.ac.uk] through which you will complete the nomination process should you receive one of the University’s nominations.  Please note that you should request a STUDENT account and students should be selecting the option 'The Student' on the 'create account screen'.

Applications for awards will be accepted from Monday 1st February, 2010.  Application forms and further information are now available here.

Closing dates

Group 1

The closing date for studentships in the following subject-areas is 30 April 2010.

Group 2

The closing date for studentships in the following subject-areas is 14 May 2010.

Late applications will not be accepted.

Notification of selection

Successful candidates will be notified of their selection for nomination for a studentship on the following dates:

Group 1:           10 May                        Group 2:           24 May

Only successful candidates and first reserve candidates will be contacted on these dates.

NB. Any nomination for a studentship is subject to confirmation from the AHRC.
