Research environment

The Department of Accounting and Finance at the University of Bristol has an excellent reputation for housing and producing first-class researchers. At present we have 14 full-time research staff, 5 of whom are at professorial level. During the 2009 RAE, the review of university research by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the Department was awarded a 2.55 rating, placing it among the top rank of UK institutions.

We aim to make the working environment at Bristol as supportive of and conducive to research as is possible. Teaching loads on research active staff are clearly controlled. Two weekly seminar series involve presentations of finance and accounting research, both from our own academics and from external visitors. We encourage visits from distinguished academics from the leading UK and overseas universities. Research staff are also provided with resources to fund international conference attendance and other research-related expenses. Finally, the Department runs a research leave scheme, whereby staff are awarded one term of sabbatical for every two full years of service.
