Working with the Widening Participation and Undergraduate Recruitment Team if you're a student

There are lots of employment opportunities within the Widening Participation and Undergraduate Recruitment Team for current Bristol students. We employ a team of student ambassadors, tutors and mentors to work on our range of outreach activities. We also employ many student stewards to work on the two University open days in June and September. A brief description of each role is listed below:

Student Mentors/Tutors now recruiting

Mentors/Tutors work with students in local secondary schools. This can include: working in the classroom, much like a classroom assistant; working with small groups; or 1:1 with individual pupils. We are currently recruiting for Student Mentors. Further details and how to apply are now available. The deadline for applications is 5.00pm on Friday 25 May 2012.

Peer Mentors now recruiting

Peer mentors meet with new first year students during their first semester to help them settle into University. This can include talking about social aspects of life, accommodation, academic work or just being a friendly face to make new students feel welcome. We are currently recruiting for Peer Mentors. Further details and how to apply are now available. The deadline for applications is extended to Monday 21 May 2012.

PASS Leaders now recruiting

PASS Leaders run collaborative study groups for first year students in the Faculty of Arts to help them settle into University. The scheme runs in the Faculty of Arts.  Further details and how to apply are now available. The deadline for applications is extended to Monday 21 May 2012.

Prospective students' Administrator/Tour Guide and Tour Guide

The University offers a series of walking tours for prospective undergraduate students who could not attend the open days. They are led by current students and are a great way to find out what it is really like to study, live and be at Bristol. Applications for these positions have now closed.

Open day team leaders and stewards

Open days are a great way to get a real sense of what it will be like to live and study in Bristol, so each year we open our doors to over 13,000 applicants who are considering studying at the University of Bristol. Applications for these positions have now closed.

Student Ambassadors

Ambassadors help run events and activities  for young people from local schools. This includes working with groups of students on visits to the University or in their own school, talking about student life and the opportunities available in higher education. Applications for these positions are now closed until October 2012.

Summer School Mentors

Mentoring involves a residential stay at one of the halls of residence, acting as an example and a group leader for young people and making sure that the summer schools take place in a safe and encouraging environment. Applications for these positions are now closed until March 2013.

Pathways to Law Mentors

Pathways to Law Mentors work with two or three year 12 students as they complete their A-levels, keeping in touch on a regular basis via email. Mentors also have the opportunity to work on regular events for Pathways students. These include academic sessions at the University, a mock trial at a local law firm, a trip to the Crown Court and a visit to the Inner Temple in London. Applications for these positions are now closed until October 2012.

How do I apply for these positions?

Complete an application form which will be available when we are recruiting for each role. This will also include reference requests. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an informal interview. If you are applying for a job which involves contact with children or young people, you will need to apply for a Criminal Records Bureau check. Training is provided for all roles.
