The Study and Work Abroad Placements team (SWAP) are part of the International Office and manage student mobility at an undergraduate and postgraduate level. Student mobility includes:
The SWAP team do not manage all mobility; there are study and work placements which are administered by academic departments, such as any placements to Russia and those connected to Year in Industry courses.
Students on a course that include a year or semester abroad can study at one of our partner institutions around the world either through the Erasmus programme (Europe only) or Study Abroad
Each year approximately 300 Bristol students will study abroad as part of their degree course and earn credits to transfer back
The SWAP team will help departments allocate appropriate university places and guide students through the application and admission process, assist with accommodation and visa information and arrange pre-departure briefings which cover health and safety, insurance, academic requirements and personal safety
Full details on the year abroad can be found on the Year Abroad website.
Students studying within the School for Modern Languages are able to spend some or all of their 3rd year abroad working in Europe through the Erasmus work placement and teaching assistantship scheme
Each year over 200 students will undertake a work placement in Europe
Although students are responsible for finding their own work placements, the SWAP team will assist with providing Convention de Stages and general advice. We also arrange pre-departure briefings to cover health and safety, insurance, academic requirements and personal safety
Full details on working in Europe through the Erasmus scheme can be found on the Year Abroad website.
