MAP A Co-design Study
The MAP A Co-design study is a Research Participatory Fund project that will Co-design aspirin information resources with diverse women and healthcare professionals.
We want to develop high-quality resources that we will quickly move into NHS care to achieve rapid impact for women found to be at-risk of placental dysfunction. Placental dysfunction means that oxygen and nutrients do not optimally reach the baby. It affects approximately 10% of pregnancies. Maternal and fetal complications from it are severe high blood pressure (pre-eclampsia), growth restriction, pre-term birth, miscarriage, stillbirth and maternal death. Daily low-dose aspirin reduces placental dysfunction and NICE advise that it can be identified in early pregnancy with recommended/prescribed aspirin by their midwife/doctor. However, research indicates that 40-60% do not take it, reducing its effectiveness.
Principal Investigator, Anna Davies (has led the interview projects undertaken to inform this project) and Senior Research Associate, Becky Lambert have expertise in medication adherence relating to pregnancy. They are highly experienced in engaging underserved women in health research. Anna will lead all aspects of the project, attending co-design training and running co-design sessions alongside collaborators.
The project will work with Community Partner Organisations:
Caafi Health, a community healthcare organisation and member of BNSSG Research Engagement Network. Caafi provides health education and supports health research in Bristol’s underserved minority ethnicity communities.
Charity/Expert Partner Organisation: Marcus Green, Chief Executive Officer, Action on Pre-eclampsia. APEC is the national charity providing support and information to parents who experience pre-eclampsia. Marcus will participate in the co-design training and activities, sit on the steering group and facilitate national dissemination activities.
