Dr Anurag Singh
PhD, Clinical Sciences
Anurag completed his clinical PhD in 2009 on the human glomerular endothelial cell and its glycocalyx, supervised by Dr Simon Satchell and Prof Peter Mathieson. He then continued in research as a clinical lecturer, being awarded an Academy of Medical Sciences Starter Grant, until 2010 when he took up a position as constant nephrologist in Vancouver. In October 2013, he was appointed Medical Director of Kidney Services, Northern Health, BC, Canada. This position offers clinical work in addition to research and teaching opportunities through the University Hospital of Northern BC.

Dr Jessica Harris
Research Associate
Jess completed her PhD in 2010, investigating the causes and cellular effects of FSGS. She continued this line of research with us for another year as a research assistant. In March 2013, Jess moved to Boston Children’s Hospital, in the Division of Nephrology. Here she works as a postdoctoral research fellow with Dr Valarie Schumacher, where she is investigating the role of RNA binding protein Staufen 2 in podocyte injury and repair.

Dr Rachel Lennon
Consultant Senior Lecturer
Rachel completed her PhD in 2008 on “circulating mediators of podocyte function in proteinuric states”, supervised by Prof Moin Saleem and Prof Richard Coward. She was promoted to Clinical Lecturer before moving to the University of Manchester where she runs her own lab as a Wellcome Trust Intermediate Clinical Fellow and an Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Nephrology at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

Dr Lorna Hale
Research Assistant
Lorna completed her PhD as a research technician, with Professor Richard Coward and Dr Gavin Welsh on insulin signalling in the podocyte. She continued with us for a following year as a research assistant before moving to Baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute at Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Melbourne, Australia. Here, she worked as a post-doctoral research fellow for 2.5yr and has been a research officer since June 2015.

Professor Richard Coward
Professor of Renal Medicine
Richard was awarded a PhD fellowship funded by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Wellchild in 2001 to study the molecular biology of the podocyte. After this he was appointed as a consultant in Paediatric Nephrology at the Royal Hospital for Children in Bristol. In 2006 he was awarded an MRC Clinical Scientist fellowship and in 2013 he secured a prestigeous MRC Senior Clinical Fellowship to develop his laboratory and research interests further, whilst continuing to have a clinical commitment in Paediatric Nephrology.
