Friends Event: Eileen Atkinson in Conversation with Richard Digby Day

The Friends of the University of Bristol Theatre Collection are delighted to welcome leading actress and screenwriter Dame Eileen Atkins who will be in conversation with the distinguished theatre director Richard Digby Day at the Wickham Theatre in Bristol on Sunday afternoon 15 January 2017.
A career spanning over 60 years, Dame Eileen appeared in the world premiere of The Killing of Sister George at Bristol Old Vic in 1965 and her Broadway debut the following year in that highly acclaimed production led to the first of four Tony Award nominations. Since then Dame Eileen’s career has been filled with theatre, television and film as well as writing. Dame Eileen’s recent one-woman show Ellen Terry with Eileen Atkins at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse weaved together the performances and lectures of the renowned Victorian actress to wide acclaim. She is currently playing Queen Mary in The Crown, a Netflix drama series. Among her many acting awards Dame Eileen has a BAFTA and an Emmy in 2008 for her role in the TV drama Cranford and has received three Olivier awards. Made a CBE in 1990 she became a Dame in 2001.
