Non-commercial copying

Scanning charges

We can provide electronic copies of images for personal research purposes. This service is provided free for the first 30 minutes, after which a charge will be made of £12.50 per half hour. You will be informed prior to additional charges being made.

Copies made must be for research use only and may not be used for reproduction or commercial purposes, without the prior agreement and acknowledgement of the copyright holder(s) and the University of Bristol Theatre Collection. You must complete a form to agree with these conditions prior to receiving the copies. Please email theatre-collection@bristol.ac.uk to request scanned images.

Copying of audio-visual material

Moving-image material will only be supplied if all relevant copyright clearances and consents have already been obtained, and evidence of this is provided in writing to the Theatre Collection.

  • Commercial copying charges: £50 per hour. A minimum one-hour charge applies.
  • Non-commercial copying charges: £25 per hour. A minimum-one hour charge applies.

Search service

If you are unable to visit the Theatre Collection in person, we can undertake more detailed searches on your behalf. This service is provided free of charge for up to half an hour. Additional time spent on an enquiry will be charged at £12.50 per half hour. Please email theatre-collection@bristol.ac.uk with full details of your enquiry so that we can advise as to potential costs.

Media and commercial enquiries

For all commercial enquiries for images (including images required for publications, exhibitions and performances) please contact ArenaPAL at enquiries@arenapal.com.

Please note that 'commercial' refers to any use within the public sphere. This includes: film and television, performance and installations, publications, exhibitions and displays, websites, online blogs and all forms of social media.
