No prior coding or AI experience is required. Units are designed to support learners new to AI, with teaching adapted to individual skill levels.

Programme structure

Based at the new Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, students can expect excellent access whether living locally or commuting. Our blended delivery allows for a mix of online and in-person teaching, while focused contact time for Health and Life Science streams is designed to support working professionals.

Core units will:

  • cover the fundamentals/foundations of AI;
  • help you gain confidence in applying and critically evaluating AI tools in medicine and health;
  • address responsible innovation and adoption of AI tools for Health;
  • explore the ethical, legal, and governance considerations surrounding AI.

Stream-specific units will complement your existing knowledge and skills:

  • Health professionals – Deeper dive into AI use in a clinical setting;
  • Life scientists – Informatics and Analytical skills;
  • Engineers / Computer Scientists – Learn supporting skills for AI in Health.

Career development is embedded from day one, with sessions on job roles, planning, entrepreneurship. You'll also benefit from engagement with startups, industry leaders, and the University's Innovation Team.

Additional support will be provided as needed, tailored to each student’s background and individual circumstances.

Entry requirements

You will typically need an upper second-class honours degree or an international equivalent in Clinical-related degree such as Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Pharmacy, Nursing, Occupational Therapy or other allied health professions. Or degree in Bioscience or science such as Neuroscience, Psychological science or Biology.

Degree in Engineering, Computer science, Technology or other Mathematics discipline.

We will also accept wider range of subjects related to Health study fields, such as Anthropology, Global Health, Health Management, Health Economics or Health Law.

We will consider your application if your interim grades are currently slightly lower than the programme's entry requirements and may make you an aspirational offer. This offer would be at the standard level, so you would need to achieve the standard entry requirements by the end of your degree.

We will also consider your application if your final overall achieved grade is slightly lower than the programme's entry requirement.

If your achieved grade is lower than our entry requirements, your application may be more likely to receive an offer if you have additional postgraduate qualifications in relevant subject or additional relevant work experience. If you have at least one of the following, please include your CV (curriculum vitae / résumé) when you apply, showing:

  • A minimum of 2 year's work experience that demonstrates upskilling in Machine learning with strong interest in advancing Medical AI (eg Health Technology Industry or startup settings, Policy setting, Public Health etc.) Full time or part time equivalent is acceptable.
