The EU referendum: advice for researchers

The UK remains a full member of the European Union until the exit mechanism is triggered and a deal is agreed. Our staff and students are therefore currently fully entitled to participate in all of the EU’s research and collaboration schemes.

We have heard anecdotal reports that some European partners are becoming reluctant to engage with researchers and institutions whose long-term status within the EU is uncertain. The Vice-Chancellor, in his most recent message to staff, has encouraged academic staff to be persistent and proactive in developing, consolidating and maintaining collaborative links with EU partners.

If you are a researcher who has encountered new challenges when dealing with European grant-making bodies or partner institutions since the referendum result, please contact Tom Bowker, Research Development Manager in Research and Enterprise Development, for advice.
