Engaging Scotland’s community voice to understand the next steps needed around gambling related harm

This project addresses the lack of awareness of gambling harm in Scotland (The Scottish Parliament, 2022), particularly those in the most deprived 20%, according to the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD). Utilising sport as an educational tool, the initiative aims to inform, educate, raise awareness, and support deprived communities to recognise gambling harm, and seek support and advice for the future. Through direct engagement, the project assesses community knowledge of available support systems and identifies areas where more support is needed. This will improve understanding of accessibility and knowledge, and address barriers to treatment, e.g., stigma.

The project lead is Dr Tom Bason at Coventry University.
