Hub researchers analyse gambling advertising via social media in the US4 September 2024Sports fans are being bombarded daily with gambling advertising via social media in the United States – and the majority of ads could be in breach of regulations, according to a new study. The findings, exposing non-compliance to the industry’s codes, have prompted calls for strict legislation to better curb and police online gambling advertising, which has surged in recent years.

Hub academics’ research cited in the CMS Committee’s report into the Government’s approach to the regulation of gambling30 January 2024The Committee for Culture, Media and Sport ran an inquiry in 2023 into the progress made by the Government’s in addressing the issues raised by Parliament and also how to ensure regulation can keep up with innovations in online gambling and the links between gambling, broadcasting and sport. This came after the launch of the Government’s Gambling White Paper into reform of the Gambling Act 2005.
