GamPiT: Evaluating the impact of gambling advertising on behaviours

We aim to understand how environmental cues, like gambling advertisements, can influence harmful gambling behaviours. We will develop an experimental task, called GamPIT, to measure how people’s reactions to gambling adverts affect their decisions and motivations to engage in harmful gambling. In our task, images that have become associated with rewards will be presented whilst participants engage in gambling behaviours. This project will therefore allow us to assess whether sensitivity to these reward-related cues can predict gambling problems. This research could help identify people vulnerable to gambling problems and lead to better prevention and treatment strategies.
