Stump the odds: developing an international network for collaborative research into gambling harms in professional cricket
A small body of research points towards the elevated risk of gambling and gambling related harms in elite sports people, and particularly among male cricketers. However, a good understanding of the risks and consequences of gambling in relation to the mental health of players and their wider support team are 2 poorly understood. This project will bring together key stakeholders from the international cricket landscape, including representatives from the Professional Cricketers Association, the International Cricket Council, England and Wales Cricket Board, academic researchers and charitable organisations, with the aim of facilitating new research collaborations and generating timely research projects and recommendations.
The project lead is Dr Carolyn Plateau (School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences) at Loughborough University.
