Impact and engagement

The work of the Centre, and its engagement with key stakeholders, demonstrates a breadth and depth of impact across policy, industry, academia and the general public.

Some examples of the impact and engagement activities from colleagues in the Centre are provided below.

Our impact with government, funders and other policy makers includes:

  • Extending the reach of critical sociodigital capacity through engagement with wider scientific communities and policymakers via involvement with the BEIS convened robotics growth partnership.
  • Engagement with policymakers, politicians and trade unionists in Westminster, Stockholm and Berlin, comparing policies and practices across European partners.
  • Work with UK policy makers on cybersecurity jobs and skills and modern industrial policy
  • Researching how policy impacts are achieved with a range of Government agencies, including strategic partner Defra, through narrative anticipation approaches and taking these learnings into development of impact scenarios to be shared with a wider policy audience.

Our impact with charities and others across the public sector includes:

  • Supporting the charitable sector on how to cultivate creative pathways to better futures in communities
  • Supporting Royal Society employees to understand the implications of the use of VR/AR/immersive technologies to inform policy.

Our impact with the general public, including the next generation of futures thinkers, includes:

  • Engaging members of the public in exploring some of the Sociodigital futures tools we are using in the centre (Future Soundings and Future Places Toolkit Augmented Reality engagement activity) in England and Budapest
  • Working with local schools and colleges to enable young people the opportunity to become immersed in virtual reality, included students who are under-represented in Higher Education to consider futures.
