The Baby Sleep Planner is an NIHR funded project headed by Dr Anna Pease that resulted in the development of a web-based tool designed to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
The planner is comprised of 2 distinct parts; a risk assessment form for users to complete to determine a baby’s risk of SIDS, and a sleep planning tool that makes recommendations of how to make their sleep environment safer. As users complete the sleep planning tool it generates a customised PDF output that can be downloaded and shared with people associated with the care of the infant. Both parts of the Baby Sleep Planner can be completed separately or together, typically with a health professional present.
Research IT undertook all the technical development work for this project, completing the server configuration and set up, using Django to create the platform, and setting up Django and Cypress test suites. Overall, the Baby Sleep Planner has been considered a resounding success, and further information regarding it can be found via this University of Bristol news and features article, as well as this feature in the Mirror.
