Frequently asked questions
Answers to the most commonly asked questions about our print services.
Print Submission system
How should I supply files?
You should supply a PDF file. This should be set up to have at least 300 dpi (dots per inch) for printing.
If your colour document has artwork that extends to the edge of the page, you should allow for a 3-5mm bleed margin. Learn more about crop marks and bleed.
Print Services can set up print-ready files for you at a cost of £50 an hour.
My job has more than one file. Can I merge them before I send them?
Yes. Upload the files you want to merge. Choose the library tab, select the appropriate files, and press the merge icon. You can also add blank pages and/or change the order of the files.
Can I submit more than one file per request?
You should only place one print order per job request.
If you have duplicate print instructions for each job (for example, an A1 matt poster for a student hand ins), send a zipped file through the Print Submission system. The system will not be able to provide a quote at this stage.
How do I arrange a department-funded student hand-in?
Email us at print-services@bristol.ac.uk to arrange a department funded student hand in. We will then modify the Print Submission system to accommodate the job.
The system will then guide you through the necessary steps. This includes specifying print and finishing requirements, and managing the associated financial arrangements.
Departmental print jobs with a valid budget code must be submitted through the Print Submission system. Do not use an external supplier without the agreement of Procurement and Print Services.
Is your printing environmentally friendly?
We only use recycled paper or paper sourced from sustainable forests. We also recycle all of our waste. Read more about the efforts we are making to minimise our impact on the environment.
How do I convert PowerPoint to PDF?
You can Convert Powerpoint to PDF (PDF, 46kB) in a few steps.
What do the different paper weights mean?
Our understanding paper page gives you information on paper weights, types and available stock.
