Caerphilly Prospective Study

The Caerphilly Prospective Study (CaPS) was set up by the former MRC Epidemiology Unit South Wales to study cardiovascular disease in the United Kingdom.

The initial aims of the study were to examine the importance of lipids, haemostatic factors, and hormones such as testosterone, cortisol and insulin in the development of ischaemic heart disease (IHD).

The study is now looked after by the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (MRC IEU) at the University of Bristol as part of our Legacy cohorts work.

Potential collaborators

A Data Access Committee (DAC) reviews all requests for data access. CaPS study data can be requested directly from the MRC IEU or accessed via Dementias Platform UK (DPUK). CaPS study and linkage data can be accessed via the UK Longitudinal Linkage Collaboration (UK LLC).

Public involvement

Patient and public involvement (PPI) plays an increasingly important role in research. People with lived experience of health conditions, as well as members of the wider public, provide valuable insight and feedback throughout research projects. This is particularly the case for studies like CaPS where the original participants are no longer directly involved. More information about being a public contributor can be found here.
