Optimising vaccine evaluation in real time using health records (OVERTURE)
Optimising Vaccine Evaluation in Real Time Using health REcords (OVERTURE) is a NIHR-funded Programme Grant for Applied Research. The programme is a comprehensive analysis of vaccine evaluation methods and outcomes in the UK context. It will break new ground on using electronic health records for vaccine effectiveness estimation, and push forward the statistical underpinning and optimisation of these methods, preparing the NHS for rapid evaluation of new and existing vaccines during epidemics. It will create tools for estimating the world’s most granular vaccine effectiveness estimates, allowing downstream vaccine targeting and purchasing decisions to be built on the firmest possible ground. Better vaccine effectiveness estimates will allow NHS funding to be spent in the most cost-effective way, and can form the basis of targeted interventions to enhance uptake and equity of the vaccination programme.
