Biography
I completed a BA and MA in Linguistics at the State University of Campinas/Unicamp (Brazil) and a Ph.D. in Linguistics at Rice University (Texas, USA).
I currently teach courses in the School of Modern Languages (SML).
Research interests
I teach Portuguese language units in the School of Modern Languages (SML) and in the University-Wide Language Programme (UWLP).
Previously I have taught in the postgraduate MA in Translation (Applied Translation; Introduction to Specialised Translation/Portuguese).
With regard to research, my interests concentrate on two main fields:
(1) Portuguese Language. In this area, my main interests are: applied linguistics and intercultural communication; translation studies; the use of Portuguese in the Brazilian media; the teaching of Portuguese, both as a foreign and a heritage language;
(2) Brazilian Indigenous Languages and Cultures. In this area, my fields of interest are: anthropological linguistics and descriptive studies; language contact; endangered languages documentation; typology.
