Her research interests lie in the areas of genetic and aetiological epidemiology, specifically using Mendelian randomization to help strength causal inference. She used to be involved in Shanghai allergy cohort and 'Children of 1997' a Hong Kong Chinese birth cohort, and now focuses on Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) and the UK Biobank. Her MPhil thesis entitled "Do Health Effects of Milk Involve Gut Microbiome or Branched-Chain Amino Acids". Her PhD project aims to identify causes of pregnancy complications, and adverse effects of these complications on maternal and offspring health in their later life.
