Biography
Dr Hua is a Research Fellow at the University of Bristol’s Centre for Academic Primary Care (CAPC). She has expertise in qualitative research with both service users and healthcare professionals. She has also conducted quantitative analyses of longitudinal datasets. Her work integrates diverse methodologies to evaluate healthcare services and patient experiences, with a strong focus on knowledge mobilisation. She has collaborated with clinicians, service users, and community organisations to translate research into practice, particularly in psychodermatology, mental health, and multimorbidity.
Dr Hua currently works on TOPIC: Transforming Outcomes for Paediatric allergy In primary Care in the Centre for Applied Excellence in Skin and Allergy Research (CAESAR). She is lead researcher on a novel qualitative study of real world use of topical treatments for childhood eczema. She is particularly interested in psychodermatology and the psychosocial impact of inflammatory skin diseases like eczema, including its association with self-harm and suicide.
Concurrently, Dr Hua conducts research to understand health inequalities and led a qualitative evaluation of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategies for NIHR Biomedical Research Centres across England. She is experienced in conducting Patient and Public Involvement Work and participatory research with underserved populations.
Phuong completed a BPsych(Hons) and Doctorate in Forensic Medicine from Monash University, Australia.
