Expertise
I work on understanding the sedimentary processes and deposits from explosive volcanic eruptions. I am particularly interested in pyroclastic density currents, and using experiments to understand their behaviour and risks.

Research interests
I am a physical volcanologist, with interests in how explosive volcanism interacts with the surrounding environment. I often use experimental modelling to explore physical processes and the properties of volcanic materials under different conditions. I am particularly interested in how pyroclastic density currents propagate and deposit, and how these interact with varied topography, substrates, and interaction with water. THis includes propagation into the submarine realm, and the hazards posed to the marine environment.
I also have expertise in rock physics and the mechanics of deformation in volcanic materials, and how these relate to the 3D structure of volcanoes. Combined with the complex stratigraphies of volcanic sediments, and the evolution of these deposits by compactcion, degassing and weathering, I am interested in exploring how the hazards and sedimentary processes on volcanic slopes get modified through time.
