Biography
I am a senior lecturer in Veterinary Integrated Structure and Function (i.e., anatomy and physiology) at Bristol Veterinary School, University of Bristol. I have over 10 years’ experience in veterinary/medical education and veterinary anatomy and physiology. I joined Bristol Veterinary School in 2019 after completing an interdisciplinary PhD in veterinary education and cognitive psychology ‘Exploring Spatial Ability in veterinary Students and the Relationship to Teaching Methods’. Between finishing my PhD and starting at the University of Bristol, I was a psychometrician at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh where I would analyse candidates’ scores in postgraduate medical examinations.
My research focusses on investigating creative and innovative approaches to teaching methods, previous projects have involved 3D printing, 3D computer models, and augmented reality.
I was recently awarded the Best of Bristol Lecturer 2020 and awarded the ‘Best Overall Teacher’ 2016 while at the Royal (dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh. I have been fortunate to receive yearly teaching nominations since 2013.
Julie has a particular expertise in assessments and provides external consultation on assessments from assessment design, blueprinting, question writing, item analyses, moderation, post-exam processing, and EDI and assessments. Julie is an avid R user and has created a shiny app for digitising the OSCE marking and processing.
