Biography
Research interests
I have a diverse biomedical sciences research background including obesity and diabetes, preterm labour, and cardiovascular cell signalling. Most recently I have studied the role of cAMP signalling in regulating cell behaviour during the development of cardiovascular disease. Cell behaviours include vascular smooth muscle proliferation in the context of atherosclerosis and restenosis, and cardiac stiffness-regulated cardiac fibrosis during post-MI remodelling and heart failure.
As a lecturer on the Teaching and Scholarship Pathway, I am actively engaged in pedagogic research that aims to advance our understanding of student experience in higher education and contribute to the evidence-based development of our teaching practice. I am particularly interested in student autonomy and the use of reflective practice in developing academic skills, as part of student-centred learning. I am examining the development of MSc-level skills in different student demographics, and trying to understand the barriers to students reflecting on feedback.

Teaching
In addition, I teach on other programmes within the Bristol Medical School, including the Reproduction and Development MSc and the iBSc in Clinical Sciences. Furthermore, I facilitate case-based learning for first and second year MB ChB Medicine students. I have completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice, and was recognised by the award of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy from AdvanceHE in 2022.
