Research interests
I am an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Paediatric Rheumatology, dividing my time equally between the School of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences and the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
Through high-dimensional omics datasets, my research explores molecular mechanisms driving localised tissue inflammation in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and its most severe systemic complication, uveitis. My interest in the function of immune cells residing in inflamed tissue began during my PhD study (Arthritis UK Fellowship) in the laboratories of Professor Tracy Hussell and Professor Rachel Lennon. By bridging the gap between extra-articular clinical features and localised tissue disease, I hope to identify biological pathways that translate into targeted, sight-saving strategies for children with complex inflammatory conditions.
My research programme is in paediatric uveitis is funded by grants from the NIHR CRN Children/Versus Arthritis Paediatric Clinical Studies Group, FAIR UK, the British Society of Rheumatology, and the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity).
I contribute to local undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
