Research interests
Becky is a river scientist, having spent several years working for the Environment Agency as a Flood and Coastal Risk Management Officer, before moving into an advisor role focused on the development of pipeline flood risk management projects. Following a move to consultancy, Becky extended her existing understanding of flood risk to review planning around fluvial, surface water and foul water risks, most recently for Waterman Aspen.
Alongside these industry roles, Becky has been lecturing since 2017, first at the University of Worcester, with a particular focus on River Science and GIS related subjects. In 2021, Becky made the move to University of Bristol to lecture in GIS and Geostatistics.
While carrying out these industry and lecturing roles, Becky has been working on her PhD from the University of Worcester, which utilizes very-high resolution terrestrial laser scan data to try to better understand the influence of bank roughness on the rate of erosion.
Becky’s research interests are broad, building on the wealth of industry experience gained in her professional career, and include flood risk, bank erosion, remote sensing (with a particular focus on terrestrial techniques) and sustainable urban drainage.
